Lucas Santtana

According to UNESCO, a language disappears somewhere in the world every 14 days. For his tenth album, Lucas Santtana brings together eleven prestigious international artists to celebrate the Brazilian language, as well as all the Romance languages, its cousins. Languages are not born in dictionaries but on the streets, in encounters, and in the interplay of identities.

Brasiliano is an album that highlights the importance of language as a marker of identity. In the song “Liga,” Lucas Santtana writes: “Listen to your language, recognize your people, so that our history is not erased again.” Lucas celebrates multilingualism by inviting numerous international artists: Gilberto Gil, Chico César, Flavia Coelho, the Brazilian band Os Paralamas Do Sucesso, Rachel Reis, and the Tupi-Guarani singer Tainara Takua; French rapper Oxmo Puccino, the Occitan duo Cocanha, Sicilian singer Dimartino, singer Karyna Gomes from Guinea-Bissau, Italian-British singer Piers Faccini, and Galician poet Marina Lado.

Rhythms and sounds from different worlds that merge to create new alchemy. Lucas Santtana reminds us that language is political, and that it is also a powerful instrument for singing the romantic melody of the Romance languages.

Shango Light

Composed of Vivus and Rizeum, this Grenoble-based collective hosts music and dance nights featuring a selection of Afro and Caribbean vinyl records from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

Blending eclecticism with a passion for records, the two DJs craft sets rich in groove and new discoveries. Afrobeat, Congolese rumba, highlife, soukous, zouk, cadence, kompa, biguine, funana, salsa, and cumbia come together to create generous, danceable musical journeys, driven by soulful and tropical influences.

Rizeum is a member of the Sound Disciples. This vinyl record collector hosts the shows Mineur de Sons on Radio Campus Grenoble and Surprises on RTL3. He champions eclecticism while staying true to the soulful sounds he holds dear. The Shango Light reunions are always an opportunity for him to showcase his finest African and Caribbean music records.

Vivus, for his part, is a member of Wise Up Hi-Fi. In recent years, he has turned his attention to African and Caribbean reggae. Through his many discoveries, he has broadened his musical horizons. Biguine, cadence, kompa, funana, salsa, and cumbia add some spice to his selection! Vivus also hosts the Wise Up Station show on Radio Campus Grenoble and Excursion Tropicale on Radio Dragon.
