La Guinguette Électrique - Reggae
Free outdoor • No reservation required • 18h-00h • Refreshments and food
The Grenoble Reggae Orchestra (GRO) is a collective that has been working since 2011 to rediscover and share reggae by organising and facilitating ‘organised jams’, which are a cross between a traditional open mic (jam) and a concert. Following four editions bringing together over 100 musicians on the stage of La Belle Électrique (“La Belle envoie du GRO” in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2023), the GRO is inviting musicians and the public to La Guinguette Électrique for the second time!
The GRO’s organisers, a mix of professional musicians and passionate amateurs, aim to bring this hugely popular music to life by exploring its repertoire – from the Skatalites to Groundation, via Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Jah9 and Fat Freddy’s Drop – and performing it in an XL format, with over ten different musicians on stage for each track.
Via its in-house digital platform, the GRO allows participants to register for the jam in advance, specifying the instrument they play and the track(s) they have chosen. Around ten days before the event, the GRO can thus provide a detailed schedule for the jam, ensuring artistic direction that guarantees a mix of musicians and a build-up to the show’s climax.

Jahlow is a Roots Reggae dub selector and one of the pioneers of dub sound systems in France, particularly in the Rhône-Alpes region. He got his start in 1986 in Grenoble with the Soul Syndikat Sound System, alongside Fasimbas, also known as Ceska.
An early disciple of Jah Shaka in France, he moved to Annecy in 1991, where he founded the Jahlow Sound System. Over the years, he has shared the stage with reggae and dub legends such as Earl Sixteen, Brother Culture, Anthony Johnson, Kenny Knots, Manasseh, Lone Ranger, and Wayne Smith.
In 1994, he made a lasting impression by producing and performing alongside Jah Shaka in Annecy and Grenoble. A major player in the local scene, Jahlow has also owned iconic venues such as the concert halls Le Balafon and Le Sabar, as well as the Reggae Bar Restaurant Dubplate Café.
Today, he co-manages the Abendigo Records label with his partner Sly. Back in Grenoble since 2022, he has developed the Dubpépite Reggae Show and hosts the DUBPEPITE ROADSHOW program on Radio Campus Grenoble.
True to the spirit of Jah Shaka, Jahlow delivers powerful and conscious performances, driven by messages of love, peace, and unity, in the pure tradition of Roots & Dub.
