With Offering, Ibeyi returns to the free-spirited, spontaneous energy of their early days. After more than a decade of success—endorsed by Beyoncé and Orelsan, featuring their Tiny Desk and COLORS sessions, and touring the biggest venues, culminating in a memorable show at the Olympia in the summer of 2023—the Diaz twins have seen their momentum wane under the pressure of algorithms and often clumsy marketing strategies.
While Offering, as is often the case in their work, draws on an imagination nourished by Yoruba religion, these references should not distract from the essential: the Diaz sisters unfold a more intimate, less symbolic narrative, and for the first time tell their story with a single voice. Blending sacred minimalism, analog textures, tweaked percussion, and transformed vocals, they’ve created an album that’s at times completely stripped-down, at others more massive, where physicality and raw energy radiate from every track.
Now independent, they have gathered around them a cohort of producers from the hip-hop, underground, and alternative pop scenes (Khalil, Jason Pounds, Zach Ezzy, pablopablo, Jack Peñate), replacing their longtime collaborator Richard Russell. It was a unanimous decision, one that proved profoundly transformative. For two years, Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé embarked on a quest for that same artistic clarity—navigating good and bad musical “dates”—until their decisive meeting with Michael Brun, who serves as the album’s executive producer. By stepping out of the public eye for a while, Ibeyi rediscovered what truly matters: the joy of making music.
