Blues in America is like wine or cheese in France: a question of terroir. With his third album, West Georgia Blues (August 2024), American Jontavious Willis explores the acoustic, swaying style of his native Georgia. And as wine goes well with cheese, but also with main courses and desserts, this gourmet and encyclopedic connoisseur of blues history mixes flavors like no other, inventing his own repertoire. On stage, his generous energy and Southern storyteller's glibness prove that he's a worthy heir to Taj Mahal or Keb Mo'.

Buffalo Nichols
Despite his name, which might suggest he was born in 1830 on the Great Plains of the Far West, Buffalo Nichols is very much a man of today: a young African-American who, like a few others with him, honors the history of the blues and, above all, brings it to life. In the songs on his latest album, The Fatalist (released by Fat Possum), we hear both drum machine and old-time banjo, samples of antique 78s and melodies that transcend genres and eras. Above all, we hear a poetic singer who meanders up and down the great river of black American music, back to its source: emotion. Simply magnificent.
