WORKSHOP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CIEL

Audio mixing - Do it yourself
Once you've recorded your tracks in do-it-yourself mode in your home studio, it's time for the often-dreaded step of audio mixing : a world as vast as it is fascinating, where different schools of thought, sometimes contradictory approaches and a multitude of technical tools come together.
To help you make sense of it all, La Belle Électrique and Le Ciel are offering a 3-hour workshop led by two experienced sound engineers. The objective? To give you a solid theoretical and practical grounding in the art of mixing. The program includes hands-on activities and discussions :
- Understand how the main audio treatments work (equalization, compression, saturation, effects) and know how to apply them.
- Learn how to choose the right tools to shape your sound, with a structured, methodical approach.
- Develop your critical listening skills: identify the processes you appreciate in reference tracks, and compare your mixes with them to make better progress.
- Know when to adopt a precise, objective approach to sound, and when to use mixing as a creative tool to infuse your music with uniqueness.
Speakers : Mathieu Gaud et James Leonard

Mathieu Gaud
Mathieu Gaud is a sound engineer, multi-instrumentalist and music producer. With a passion for sound and recording, he trained at the prestigious Image et Son master's program in Brest, before multiplying his collaborations (Steve Albini, Philippe Tessier, Thurston Moore, John Cornfield, Askjell) and experiences in various studios (Mikrokosm, Purple Sheep, altSonik and Mémoire Mécanique). Now sound engineer at Studio de La Plaine and manager of his own company (MG recordings), Mathieu continues to live his profession freely, without genre boundaries, fuelled by an eternal curiosity that takes him a little further every day.

James Leonard
James Leonard is a British sound artist and engineer based in Grenoble. His career path is a perpetual cross-fertilization between music production and new technologies for creation: a doctorate in physical simulation followed by several years of research at Grenoble-Alpes University, while at the same time developing a studio activity, now run under the name Pentachrome Wave. A fervent advocate of experimental music (and the role the computer can play in it), for over 10 years he has been developing all manner of bizarre tools for sound creation, notably within the Orcæ project. He teaches computer music and sound engineering at the Grenoble Conservatoire, and is also resident at Le Ciel with the Eptagon collective.
