The Stranglers

First formed in 1974, the Stranglers embraced the "no bullsh*t" attitude of the late '70s punk movement. But their musicality and menace transcended the genre, creating a sound all their own. Their first three albums (Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes and Black and White) were released within 13 months of each other, and scored hits with "Peaches", "No More Heroes" and "Walk On By". Further hits followed with "Always The Sun", "Strange Little Girl" and the undying "Golden Brown", among others, giving the band 24 Top 40 hits and 19 Top 40 albums in a career spanning six different decades.

With that unique Stranglers sound, combining a brilliant melodic touch with dark aggression and effortless cool, The Stranglers are now recognized as one of the most credible and influential bands to emerge from the punk era.

In 2019, they released their 19th studio album, "Dark Matters". Reaching number four in the UK charts, this innovative album pushed the boundaries of their sound, incorporating electronic and alternative rock elements, highlighting the band's ongoing creativity and fearless exploration of new musical territories.

As the Stranglers approach their 50th anniversary in 2024, this latest milestone is a testament to their enduring legacy. With a rich musical history and forward-thinking approach, the Stranglers remain an enduring force in the ever-changing world of rock music. Their unwavering dedication to their craft, their ability to reach audiences worldwide and their commitment to pushing musical boundaries continue to set them apart and cement their status as one of the most iconic and influential British rock bands.

RANK

Four letters for this abrasive post-punk quartet that debuted on the Lyon scene in 2011 and has since played in France and Belgium, notably alongside Lydia Lunch, The Wedding Present, The Intelligence, Whispering Sons and more recently with Frustration or Fontaines D.C.

Listening to Rank's first four albums is like escaping to England in the late 1970s. Without wallowing in nostalgia, the band manages to refresh this sound to offer something new, full of tension and subtlety.

In 2024, they are preparing their fifth album, produced by Mancunian Matthew Leonard of Total Victory.
