This season, La Belle Électrique is offering a new series of events in the form of meetings with artists and personalities from the music industry. To help us better understand the possible paths and keys to developing a music project, they will share their experience and professional vision with us.
Rock w/ Jean-Noël Scherrer
For this fourth professional meeting, La Belle's Labo welcomes Jean-Noël Scherrer, singer and guitarist with the band Last Train, one of the leading lights of the French independent rock scene. This is an opportunity to discuss his band's career and his entrepreneurial vision of music.
Starting out very young in their native Alsace, the four musicians of Last Train learned their craft on the job and saw their career take off in 2014 with the release of the tracks Cold Fever and Fire. Their music blends alternative rock, post-rock, and garage rock, performed in English. In two years, they have played more than 250 concerts throughout Europe, as well as in Asia and the United States. Winners of the Prix des Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges in 2015 and the Fair in 2016, Last Train quickly established themselves as one of the must-see bands on the French rock scene, while cultivating their independence through the creation of their own label, Cold Fame Records, in 2015. With the machine now in motion, Last Train has been releasing albums, touring venues, and performing at the biggest festivals for over ten years.
With the Last Train adventure, Jean-Noël Scherrer discovered a real passion for cultural entrepreneurship. He first founded and ran Cold Fame, a concert promotion and production agency based in Lyon, with which the group handled everything related to their environment: promotion, music videos, production, and even organizing their tours down to the smallest detail. The company quickly expanded and began organizing tours for many other bands such as Bandit Bandit, Lysistrata, MNNQNS, Hubert Lenoir, Paul Jacobs, and Alias. At the same time, Jean-Noël launched “Messes,” monthly concerts in Lyon with a radically rock aesthetic, and the La Messe de Minuit festival.
In 2023, the Cold Fame adventure came to an end and Jean-Noël returned to devote himself fully to his band's project through Last Train Production, a new production company for all the band's activities. Producer, tour manager, but also artist, this young entrepreneur wears many hats, far from institutional discourse and passionate about music as much as the means of distributing it.
