Fred Wesley
Born in Georgia in 1943, Fred Wesley grew up in Alabama. He began his career as a trombonist with Ike and Tina Turner. He later became musical director, arranger, trombonist and principal composer for James Brown (1968-1975). He later played with Parliament-Funkadelic and Bootsy's Rubber Band.
Fred Wesley starred in the documentary "Soul Power", and won an Oscar for "When We Were Kings". He has also contributed to numerous documentaries on James Brown and funk music.Today, he plays and records with his own jazz-funk band. He shares his musical knowledge with young musicians and music students around the world.

This could be the soundtrack to a night out in some legendary club in New York, Detroit or Chicago, in the heart of the 60s and 70s. The UP TIGHT dj's draw on the sources of rock, ska and soul, and summon the tutelary figures of Stax, Motown and other mythical English labels, consistent in their filiation: black music, so crassly rebellious, sublimely anti-establishment, powerfully danceable.Over the last ten years, since their first show at La Bobine, they've been playing their vinyl on regional stages (l'Ampérage, La Belle Électrique, Musilac, Le Cabaret Frappé...) and further afield (including two tours of Spain), establishing their signature sound.
