Kadavar

What’s really missing now, before the Apocalypse? Fire falling from the sky? Locusts? Oceans of blood? Otherwise, everything’s already here. Obviously, this didn’t happen overnight: as early as 2017, Kadavar was already playing out its own end-of-the-world scenario with "Rough Times". Eight years later, the verdict is clear: everything has gotten much, much worse. Once again, Berlin’s rock royalty responds to this reality through music, with a sound that’s significantly rawer, more massive, more compact, and darker than on their recent releases: “K.A.D.A.V.A.R.” is like a second debut album, a new landmark work that blends the riff-obsession of their early days with the cosmic creativity of their new four-piece lineup.

Where the previous album delved more into meandering paths, this one rediscovers the groove. Where ethereal atmospheres once dominated, the riff takes back control. “We wanted to get back to big riffs; we wanted to make heavy, massive hard rock again.”

The depth of the themes addressed is also a first in Kadavar’s universe. Whereas “I Just Want To Be A Sound” explored inner conflicts, “K.A.D.A.V.A.R.” deliberately turns its gaze outward. It’s an end-of-the-world album. More disillusioned, more furious, harder, more biting. A laid-bare examination of everything that’s wrong with the world. In other words, almost everything.

And destruction is certainly on the agenda: the martial bass drum that opens “Lies,” followed by that massive, rumbling riff, briefly evokes “Iron Man” (Black Sabbath) before giving way to an irresistible groove that immediately shows the band has lost none of its skill.
